Autumn Term

18th November - Being resilient with our ukuleles

Y4 needed lots of resilience today as we added G7 and D minor to our chord bank (A minor, C major and F major).  It's getting trickier but still lots of smiles and a lot of singing.

10th November

Year 6 enjoyed exploring 'live loops' on the ipads today.  They chose their palette of sounds ready for composing their own music in the next few weeks.  There were a lot of smiles and even some dancing!

3rd November 2020 - Exploring tuned percussion

Y5 were fantastic today at re-orientating themselves with our tuned percussion instruments.  They used two beaters and discovered that a lot of words are hidden on the instruments.  Our favourite on we found was cabbage!

Y3 Kandinksy inspired compositions

Having explored synesthesia and colours and timbres of music this half term, Y3 found out about Schoenburg and Kandinsky.   They explored some Kandinsky paintings and using instruments played the piece with the sounds and colours of music they heard from the painting.  Have a look at their graphic scores to notate their music.

Y2 final Thornhill soundscapes

Year 2 have been exploring the sounds they heard on their walk back in the music room and created their own Thornhill soundscapes.  Have a look at their scores they wrote to notate their music.

Thornhill Soundwalk - 2.10.20

Year 2 had a great time exploring Thornhill today.  They were looking at different types of buildings and also discovering what sounds you could really hear.  We heard a lot of different sounds.  They were inspired to compose Thornhill soundscapes after hearing 'No place like..' by Kerry Andrew.

Connect it.....

Anna Meredith's 'Connect it' is inspiring lots of rhythmic pieces in Year 5 and Year 6.  We are composing our own versions with class movement and group sections... watch this space!

Exploring colours in sound - Year 3

Year have been listening for the colours in sounds based on the book 'Here comes Frankie'.  They have been painting and listening carefully while they tried out all the instruments in the music room.  We can't wait to see what they can hear in the Kandinky paintings they are about to explore.

Thank you!

A massive thank you to our amazing instrumental teachers who spent a few weeks getting all our instruments ready for our lessons to start again.  There have been some really excited children over the past few weeks who are so pleased to be playing again - its' been wonderful to hear!

5M - feeling happy!

5M were definitely feeling happy when they wrote these new lyrics for 'happy' by Pharrell WIlliams - well done 5M and Mr Mount! Writing the lyrics and singing together really united the class. Have a go at trying them yourself at home.

It might sound crazy what we're 'bout to say,

Lockdown is over, it’s a brand new day,

We’re back at school and we’re with our friends,

And together, we can see, the fun never ends

We are the Mammoths

Clap your hands, stamp your feet and punch the air with glee

And we’re so happy

Work together everyday, won’t you come and learn with me

We are the Mammoths

Clap your hands if you feel like you’re happy to be here

And we’re so happy

Work together and our smiles will never disappear

In a new class, learning this and that,

Be resilient, no holding back,

Reflect on what we do, and we can be sure,

Be the best that we can be, couldn’t ask for more

We are the Mammoths

Clap your hands, stamp your feet and punch the air with glee

And we’re so happy

Work together everyday, won’t you come and learn with me

Bring us down, there’s nothing that can

Bring us down

Because we are out of lockdown

There’s nothing that can

Bring us down

Let us tell you now

Bring us down

There’s nothing that can

Bring us down

Because we are out of lockdown

Oh yes we are out of lockdown

We are the Mammoths

Clap your hands if you feel like you’re happy to be here

And we’re so happy

Work together and our smiles will never disappear

Bring us down, there’s nothing that can

Bring us down

Because we are out of lockdown

Oh yes we are out of lockdown

We are the Mammoths

Clap your hands, stamp your feet and punch the air with glee

And we’re so happy

Work together everyday, won’t you come and learn with me

September 2020

What a fantastic start to the year we have had!  Music has led our recovery curriculum plans and been used throughout the school to re-engage and re-inspire our children.  Children are forming strong relationships with each other and most importantly smiling and having fun.

We have been nominated as a Music Mark School this year in recognition of our high quality music education for all children. We are incredibly pleased and proud.
